    Metabolomics, which is the comprehensive analysis of metabolic products generated within organisms, is the newest "omic" field created within post-genomic sciences. Metabolomics has attracted considerable interest as a promising means of understanding fundamental biology and elucidating the function of genes with unknown functions. Therefore, we are developing new technologies for metabolomic data analysis systems and researching new operating methods.

    Fundamentals of material science in advanced steel have been investigated in the joint research chair, as the result of superior collaboration between Osaka University and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation. Based on the development of advanced electron microscope techniques, the relationship between mechanical properties and microstructure design has been extensively studied from meso-scopic view points. The aim is the establishment of material design from nano to macro demensions.
