    Robust Networking Area

Professor TAKINE Tetsuya Associate Professor MATSUDA Takahiro Assistant Professor INOUE Yoshiaki
Networking is important to bring out potentials of physical media and
network applications. Our research interests include the development
of protocols and control techniques for various communication network
environments and their evaluation with network traffic theory,
simulation experiments, and practical network experiments.

    Photonic Networks Engineering Area

    Professor MARUTA Akihiro
To meet the ever-growing bandwidth demand, our mission is to drastically improve capacity, flexibility, spectrum/energy efficiency, and security of photonic networks based on the advanced optical switching and transmission technologies. Our development takes place in all domains from access and mobile front-haul, through metropolitan, to long-haul transmission.

    Media Integrated Communication Area

Professor BABAGUCHI Noboru Associate Professor NITTA Naoko Assistant Professor NAKAMURA Kazuaki
To make communication between human and human/computers/agents/robots smooth, safe and secure,
    our laboratory pursues multimedia communication,
focusing on media processing for image/video/audio/text,
intelligent processing such as machine learning,
    and privacy and security technologies.
    Recent research topics are
    1) Real world sensing via various sensors such as networked cameras, mobile sensors and social sensors,
    2) Retrieval and summarization for large-scale multimedia,
    3) Human activity understanding and biometrics-based authentication,
4)Infrastructure for protection and utilization of privacy information.

    Wireless Communication Systems Area

Professor SAMPEI Seiichi Associate Professor IBI Shinsuke
We design for future wireless communication systems, concentrating elemental technologies in four research topics: heterogeneous networks, multi-dimensional signal processing, internet of things, and cognitive sensing.

    Cyber Security Engineering Area

Professor MIYAJI Atsuko Assistant Professor SU Chunhua
To achieve a robustness of information society, we research cryptosystems and cybersecurity for secure data utilization and privacy protection on IoT device, cloud, and big data.

    Advanced Optical Communication Technology Area

Professor INOUE Kyo Associate Professor IGARASHI Koji Assistant Professor HIRA Masafumi
Optical communication is one of the fundamental technology supporting the present information abundant society. Our laboratory studies advanced optical communication technologies for large capacity and highly-functional transmission systems. Topics being studied include multiple transmission systems to convey a large amount of information over one optical fiber, optical signal regenerating and/or error correcting technologies to achieve a long-haul transmission, and quantum secure communication that offers ultimately secured communication based on quantum mechanics.

    Electromagnetic Compatibility Area

    Associate Professor USHIO Tomoo
    We study remote sensing technique,
    including space satellite based on
    electromagnetic wave science, and
its application. Our final goal is to
    predict hazardous weather phenomena
such as tornados, heavy rains and
    lighting and reduce their damages.
